Legendary music producer Phil Spector (81) died in prison

American music producer Phil Spector died. Spector, who is considered one of the most influential producers of all time, was 81 years old.

Spector died during his nineteen year imprisonment which he served for killing actress Lana Clarkson in 2003. According to California prison authorities, it was a natural death and the official cause of death has yet to be confirmed, but entertainment website TMZ says he knows the coronavirus killed him.

According to TMZ, Spector was taken to the hospital four weeks ago because of his infection with covid-19, and since he had been strengthened in the last few weeks, he was allowed to return to his cell. But eventually he died yesterday of the virus in a hospital, says the entertainment website.

Wall of Sound

The music producer got a big name because of his development of the Wall of Sound: a sound recording technique that produces songs with a new orchestral sound, in which musical instruments are difficult to distinguish between them.

Spector produced great hits such as John Lennons Imagine. He has worked since the 1960s with, among others, The Beatles, Ike and Tina Turner, The Ramones and Leonard Cohen. Between 1961 and 1965, the American produced twenty top 40 hits. Also great artists such as the Beach Boys and Bruce Springsteen, who did not work with him, were influenced by his style.

Spector, who was struggling with drug and alcohol addictions, withdrew from music during the 1980s and 90s. On 3 February 2003, he was arrested after finding Lana Clarksons body in his home.

He met the actress that night at a club in Hollywood. They went to Spectors house together, which she didnt survive. The music producer said that she herself wanted to โ€œkissโ€ his rifle, but during the trial it came out that he had previously threatened four women with a gun. In 2009, he was sentenced to 19 years in prison.
