The municipality of Utrecht might want to set up an XL test location on the Jaarbeursterrein near Utrecht Centraal, as the city council writes Wednesday in a letter to the municipality. Utrecht is the first municipality to come out with a concrete proposal about an XL test location.

At the new test site, 4000 people should be able to be tested daily with both fast testing and regular PCR testing. This makes it one of the largest test sites in the Netherlands. The site should also be provided with a mobile laboratory. The city council writes that the intended opening of the site is scheduled in November.

In total, the Ministry of Health aims at seven so-called XL locations, where both regular and different quick tests are offered. The XL locations will probably also be in Amsterdam, The Hague, Eindhoven, Groningen, Rotterdam and the Arnhem-Nijmegen region. Around a thousand soldiers are currently being trained to work at the new extra-large test sites. They are non-medical personnel trained internally with the help of training institute NCOI, according to the Ministry of Defence.

In the letter to the city council, the city council of Utrecht also writes on Wednesday that the Kanaleneiland district is looking for a suitable place for a new, small-scale test location.
