Liverpool did excellent business in the first match against RB Leipzig in the Champions League. Without playing great, 0-2 was won. Until twice, Jürgen Klopps team benefited from a defensive flater in the Leipzig defense: Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané scored the goals.
The match, played in the Puskás Aréna in Budapest because of the severe corona measures in Germany, started very messy. Both teams played sloppy, but got opportunities to get the lead. Dani Olmo was close to the opening hit for Leipzig, but he saw his headball bouncing back into the field through the inside of the pole.
After this first danger came also Liverpool several times dangerous for the opponents goal. A hit by Roberto Firmino was canceled, after Mané failed to keep the ball within the lines just before. Andy Robertson didnt think to surprise Leipzig-keeper Péter Gulácsi much later from a great distance, but his commitment just flew over.
In the second act, Liverpool decided the game in his favor at lightning speed. From scratch, The Reds took the lead: Salah got a free passage to Gulásci after a dramatic pass by Leipzig captain Marcel Sabitzer. The Egyptian benefited and set his team to 0-1.
Not much later it was Mané who doubled the score. He, too, made gratefully use of a mistake in Leipzig-defence. This time it was Nordi Mukiele who went wrong. It remained here in Hungary, which means that Leipzig needs a small miracle in the return to place itself for the next round.
