Lizzie Deignan beats Dutchmen in GP de Plouay

Lizzie Deignan has won the GP de Plouay for the third time. The 31-year-old Deignan, who became world champion under her maiden name Armitstead in 2015, beat her compatriot Lizzy Banks in the sprint. The two English women rode the last 30 kilometers together in the pouring rain.

Banks started the sprint on the ascending stretch towards the finish, but Deignan turned out to be too strong. The rider from Trek-Segafredo also won the GP de Plouay in 2015 and 2017. Last year Anna van der Breggen triumphed, in 2018 Amy Pieters was the strongest.
