Lodeweges and KNVB run option: Nows not the moment

Dwight Lodeweges does not sign a new contract with the KNVB for the time being. The assistant coach was able to spend longer in Zeist, but first wants to see who will be the new coach.
The KNVB agrees with that plan and so the option, which should have been highlighted on June 30, is left untouched. โ€œWe both agree that it‘s not the time now,โ€ says Lodeweges to Algemeen Dagblad. โ€œTo record that a new coach has to work with me, doesn’t make sense. The KNVB believes that, and I think that‘s what I think.โ€
Lodeweges is and remains a welcome guest in the Zeister woods. So it could be that he stays under a new coach as well. โ€œI am totally open in it myself. If the next coach says, โ€œI want to talk to Dwight, that’
s always possible. Meanwhile, like the KNVB, I am free to look around.โ€
In 2018 he was asked by the former coach Ronald Koeman as his right hand at the Dutch team. When Koeman left for Barcelona in the summer of 2020, Lodeweges stayed on to ensure continuity with Orange. As an assistant to Frank de Boer, he attended the disappointing European Championship that ended in the eighth finals.
