Maguire can breathe a sigh of relief after conviction: ‘For me, he is a top man’

Harry Maguire will also be the captain of Manchester United next season. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has decided not to take the 27-year-old Englishman away from the band, despite his conviction.

Maguire got involved in a brawl on the Greek island of Mykonos this summer during his holiday. He was arrested, after which the Greek court found him guilty of aggravated assault, attempted bribery, violence against police officers and defamation of officials in office. His prison sentence of 21 months and 10 days was commuted to a suspended sentence.
Solskjaer sees no reason to further punish the defender after a conversation with Maguire and the board. “He will be our captain,” stresses the Norwegian on the United website. “For me he is a top man and he has always been a positive boy, with the right standards and values. I hope we will see him again at his best this season”
Maguire came over from Leicester City for about EUR 88 million a year ago. This made him the most expensive defender ever.
