Man abuses bus driver, 30 months in jail demanded

A 38-year-old Amsterdammer is suspected of having abused a bus driver of GVB Amsterdam on 6 October 2020, because he wanted to get on the bus without a cap. Public speaks of a brutal assault and also attempted manslaughter.

The bus driver spoke to the defendant in New West district on Ruys de Beerenbrouckstraat for not wearing a mouthcap, after which the suspect went crazy.

The throat of the 67-year-old victim was pinched during the assault. Also, the man was beaten, kicked and bitten so hard that he passed out. While the driver was already on the ground, the suspect would have walked over the victim‘s head and body.

A week after the incident, the defendant could be apprehended. He’s been stuck ever since.

‘Huge impact’

The victim kept on the incident a concussion, bruised ribs and a battered face and dentition. He had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance. According to the AT5 city channel, things are now going well, but the assault has had a huge impact on him.
