Manchester City wants to break transfer record: EUR 94 million for Giménez

Manchester City is not yet ready on the transfer market. According to AS, the English superpower has made a formal mega-bid on José Maria Giménez, defender of Atlético Madrid. Manchester City is reported to have EUR 89 million left before the arrival of Giménez. Due to bonuses, the transfer price could reach 94 million in the future, making the 25-year-old Uruguayan the most expensive defender of all time. The record is now in the name of Harry Maguire, for whom Manchester United paid a sloppy 88 million.
Atlético does not want to help Giménez leave and points to the EUR 120 million escape clause in his contract. Spaniard Txiki Begiristain is negotiating on behalf of City with Miguel Ángel Gil Marin and Andrea Berta, respectively Managing Director and Sports Director of Atlético.
City Manager Josep Guardiola is looking for a high-level central defender to strengthen his team. The number two of the past Premier League season already counted 45 million euros for Dutch national Nathan Aké earlier this summer. Atlético has not yet rejected Manchester Citys mega-bid, AS stresses.
