Martens with Barça in semifinals CL, also Wolfsburg by after monster victory

Lieke Martens and Dominque Janssen reached the semi-finals of the Champions League with their clubs FC Barcelona and VfL Wolfsburg respectively. The Catalan club was in Bilbao 1-0 too strong for Atlético Madrid, where Merel van Dongen made her debut, and Wolfsburg waltzed 9-1 over Glasgow City in Scotland

Martens dangerous

Barcelona dominated the match, but the first big chance was for Atlético. At Barcelona Martens caused the most danger in the first half. She dribbled away in midfield and created a few tricky moments in front of Hedvig Lindahl’s goal.

First, a shot from the 27-year-old Dutch on the way was touched, allowing the goalkeeper to easily save. Martens then set up a promising attack, but her cross could just be tapped away by Lindahl before a Barcelona player could put her head against the ball. Martens was replaced in the 63rd minute by Mariona Caldentey.

Pas in the 81st minute Barcelona managed to turn the preponderance into a goal. Kheira Hamraoui slid the ball hard and clean past Lindahl and shot her club to the semi-finals of the Champions League

Where the victory of Barcelona was difficult to achieve, Wolfsburg had no child to Glasgow City in the other quarterfinals. It was 9-1 for the champion of Germany and the winner of the German Cup. Dominique Janssen entered the field after an hour of play.

Resisting matches

The last two quarterfinals will be played on Saturday. Arsenal, with among others Vivianne Miedema, will then play against Paris Saint Germain and Olympique Lyonnais, which is already supreme in the Champions League from 2016, will hit Bayern Munich.

The semi-finals will be played on Tuesday 25 and Wednesday 26 August. The final is on Sunday 30 August in San Sebastián.
