Matchwinner Miedema kills Ajax Women in crucial Champions League game

Ajax Women has failed to reach the group stage of the UEFA Women‘s Champions League. Vivianne Miedema threw a spanner in Amsterdam’s food at De Toekomst.
After a 2-2 draw in London, Ajax had to win against Arsenal in-house to secure Champions League football. After twenty minutes, the home team got the first big chance to lead. Chasity Grant was the final station after a beautiful pass by Victoria Pelova, but failed to score.
Six minutes after the break, Arsenal took the lead, via whom other than Miedema. Sherida Spitse was blocked, allowing the all-time top scorer of the Orange Lionesses to play freely. Not much later, Miedema was able to make her second of the evening. Ajax owed it to goalie Lize Kop that the margin was not doubled. Twenty minutes before, Tiny Hoekstra had the chance to equalize, but she was a toe length short. The Amsterdammers were unable to turn the tide, causing Arsenal to go to the Champions League group phase at the expense of Ajax.
