The VGC portal, relying on its sources, reports that Konami is going to revive Metal Gear, Castlevania and Silent Hill. There have been rumors of such a thing for a while, especially regarding Silent Hill — there is still a popular theory on the network about the connection of the mystery horror Abandoned with the popular franchise and Hideo Kojima. The last game within Metal Gear was 2018‘s Metal Gear Survive, which was not appreciated by critics and players.
In the case of Castlevania, the last major piece was Lord of Shadow 2 in 2014. The decision to return to popular series was allegedly influenced by a restructuring in the development department that took place earlier this year.
First among the “returnees” is to be Castlevania, which sources describe as a “reinvention” . Konami herself works on it with support from several Japanese studios — The existence of the project has already been reported before.
There have also been rumors previously that the authors of the remake of Demon’s Souls from Bluepoint, which Sony recently bought, are working on an updated version of Metal Gear Solid. But according to VGC, a Chinese studio is currently working on the remake, and the project itself is still in the early stages of development.
And it seems to be Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater rather than the original one. MGS.
In addition, Konami wants to release remasters of the series‘ games on next-generation consoles ahead of the release of the Snake Eater remake. Virtous, a studio working on the MGS project, who handled ports of Dark Souls and The Outer Worlds on Nintendo Switch, and was involved in the production of Battlefield 1 and Horizon Zero Dawn.
Several projects are about to be released for Silent Hill — one of them is being worked on by a well-known developer from Japan. Also, after the unfortunate results of Metal Gear Survive and Contra: Rogue Corps, Konami became more open to the idea of collaborating with other firms on popular series like the same Silent Hill.
Earlier for this reason, Konami representatives rejected the idea of a new game in the series proposed by the authors of Until Dawn. The firm is expected to announce its plans next year — they could have been announced at E3 2021 in theory, but Konami decided not to participate in the exhibition.
