According to media reports, New Line Cinema studio launched a 1939 remake of “The Wizard of Oz” into development. Nicole Cassel, who has worked on HBOs “Keepers,” “Vinyl” and “Wild West World,” is responsible for directing the new version. The original picture with Judy Garland remains one of the most famous adaptations of this story, but the authors of the new version state that their tape will demonstrate a “fresh look” on familiar plot and themes.
At the same time, some elements will still borrow from the first film, although they are also apparently “reimagined”. Whether there will be new songs in this version, or the tape at all will do without musical numbers is unclear.
