Memphis Depay has indicated that he wants to leave Olympique Lyon after this season. The attacker hopes to say goodbye to the French with a championship.
Together with Houssem Aouar, Memphis is one of the great stars of OL. Still, after this season, the Moordrechter wants to take a step higher. “We realize that we are already playing for a big club,” says Memphis in a duo interview with Aouar against Canal+. “But we would like to go to one of the biggest three clubs in the world. I think Aouar will be ten times as good and I expect to be able to do the same.”
The contract of the 59-fold international of the Dutch national team expires this summer. That would mean he could be transfer-free looking for another club. Memphis hopes to be able to do that with a French title in his pocket. “It would do a lot to me if I could join Aouar, my other teammates, the club and the president champion of France.”
At present, Lyon is the number three of France. Through a 1-0 home defeat against Metz, they gave up the lead position to Paris Saint-Germain, which now stands for two points. Lille is also above Lyon: they have as many points as PSG, but a less goal balance.
