A great darts evening for the Netherlands on the first day of the World Grand Prix. All three Dutch people who came into action in Coventry reached the second round.
Michael van Gerwen had a little more trouble than he hoped against Krzysztof Ratajski, but eventually he pulled 2-1 against the Pole.
Van Gerwen was very successful in the past at the only tournament on the calendar, where a leg should also be started with a double. The 31-year-old Dutchman has already won the tournament five times. Last year Van Gerwen knocked in the final Dave Chisnall.
In 2012, Van Gerwen won his first major title at the PDC at the World Grand Prix.
Noppert and Van Duivenbode
Earlier on the evening Danny Noppert and Dirk van Duijvenbode also reached the second round. After losing the first set, Noppert turned out to be too strong for the Englishman Ryan Searle with 2-1 in the opening party of the evening.
