Michael van Gerwen surprisingly disabled

Michael van Gerwen was eliminated in the second round on Sunday on the second day of the Autumn Series. The triple world champion lost 4-6 in legs to Demon Heta.

Van Gerwen had a good start of the day in Niedernhausen, Germany with a victory (6-2) over compatriot Niels Zonneveld. In that match he threw an average of 98.2. Against Heta he stayed far away from the 100 points per three arrows with a score of 94.1.

A day earlier Van Gerwen stranded in the semi-finals. The 31-year-old from Vlijmenaar lost a 5-2 lead against reigning world champion Peter Wright. In the end he went down 6-7.

Van Gerwen is going through a difficult phase in his career. After the coronabreak in the second round of the major tournament World Matchplay he surprisingly lost to Simon Whitlock. Last week he was prematurely eliminated as title defender in the prestigious Premier League. In the previous five-day Summer Series Van Gerwen managed to win two floor tournaments.
