Military plane crashes in Philippines, at least 45 dead

In the Philippines, at least 45 people died when a military aircraft crashed at an airport in the southern province of Sulu. Authorities fear that number is still rising: there are five more missing.

According to an Air Force statement, landing went wrong. Examining how that could be done. Citizens on the ground have also been killed by the crash.

Emergency services try to extinguish the fire in the plane and are looking for the missing occupants. About fifty people were rescued from the aircraft and taken to a hospital.

Many of the victims had just graduated as a military. They were headed south to join the task force that is fighting terrorist groups in the region. Authorities assume an accident: there are no signs for an attack.
