Donyell Malen scored twice against ADO Den Haag, but it wasn‘t enough for the victory. The striker of PSV is really bummed, especially because he had chances for more.
“At times we played well, but we don’t buy anything for that”, sombert Malen for the camera of ESPN. The Orange-International attacked Martin Fraisl‘s goal thirteen times. “I hit the bar twice. One time I shot in the short corner, where I should have shot in the far corner. The goalkeeper grabbed them well, but I did have some chances.”
“As an attacker, it is important that you are looking for a goal,” continues Malen. “That felt good, but I’d rather I shoot less, but let them go in.” PSV was halfway through even 1-0 behind because of the many missed opportunities. “It was an unnecessary goal, but that could happen. We responded well to that. We‘re getting a good head start, but after that, everything’s against. Then you play right, because unfortunately they score in the last minute.”
PSV sees the title further out of sight, after Ajax midweeks was already too strong in the KNVB Cup. “It‘s not a good week”, underlines Malen, who, nevertheless, does not worry too much. “I think we’re a good group. We are honest with each other and to our achievements.”
Over the past few weeks it has been a lot about the choices, and especially the switches, of trainer Roger Schmidt. “You‘re a top club, that’s part of it,” says Malen. “We‘re human beings, not robots. Not everything is fine, but this is professional football. As a group, we need to be close now. Thursday we’ll start again.”
