Mollema awaits surgery for complicated wrist fracture: Kids fall

Bauke Mollema left a complicated fracture on his left wrist after his fall in the thirteenth stage of the Tour de France. The 33-year-old rider from Trek-Segafredo is still waiting for the result of a scan and will have surgery tonight. This was announced by Nino Daniele, Treks team doctor, after the finish of the stage

Steven de Jongh, team leader of Mollema at Trek, didnt know exactly what happened at the crash. “I understood that it was a very bad crash. I wont say what Bauke said after the crash. He was not very happy with it

Mollema was thirteenth in the general classification and was looking for a place in the top ten. “The loss is very big, I dont need to explain any further”, said De Jongh. “He rode well this Tour. Together with Richie (Porte, ed.) he was one of our leaders and those two formed a good team in the mountains. Its a shame

Mads Pedersen, Mollemas teammate, was first with the Dutchman after the crash. “Bauke was bleeding from his mouth and he asked me if his teeth were still there. That was the case. So I think it was a cut in his lip”

The Dane was ordered to wait for his teammate, but when he got the confirmation that Mollema could no longer continue, he was allowed to drive on. “Its a shame for him and for the team. He was in good shape and on his way to do something nice”
