More than 20 dead after landslide in Venezuela

In Venezuela, at least 22 people died in a landslide. 52 people are still missing, the countrys vice president announced.

The landslide swept away mud, stones and trees that caused havoc in the town of Las Tejerias, some 90 kilometers southwest of the capital Caracas. Eyewitnesses say they had only seconds to get themselves to safety. Some of them are still trapped under the rubble. Rescue workers are trying to free them.

The landslide is due to heavy rains in recent weeks. Thirteen people were killed earlier by the severe weather. 11 of 23 states in Venezuela suffered from floods. President Maduro has mobilized 20,000 soldiers and rescue workers to assist affected regions.
