Steven Berghuis is increasingly finding his turn as an attacking midfielder at Ajax. The former Feyenoorder is very happy about his new position after the 9-0 SC Cambuur victorate.
“When I dissected myself as a football player, and look at the qualities I have, I think Im really an attacking midfielder who can put other people to work. That can be from the right, as well as ten. Here I have a little more freedom of movement, I can get left and right. I like its a nice position,” Berghuis analyzes in front of the ESPN camera.
The Orange international doesnt think he had to cross a threshold in Amsterdam. “But youre joining a new club, in a team with players who have been together for a long time. You have to find your spin: I have to get used to them and they are to me. At least the period with the Dutch team has done me well. I played three good matches there and returned to Ajax more strongly.”
For the international period, there was still a surprise that Berghuis left a free kick to Zakaria Labyad. “I also learned that there was some surprise, but Zakaria also has a good free-kick. At Feyenoord, Jens Toornstra orOrkun Kökçü has also taken a free kick on a regular basis. Its a bit of an image that arises, but Ive also played good matches for Ajax in the beginning.”
“Anyone who comes somewhere new just needs to get used to. And I totally, because as Feyenoorder to Ajax: thats not nothing,” continues Berghuis, who received threats himself. “But theyre gone now, its quiet now. Everyone goes on again and thats the way it has to be.”
