This Tuesday afternoon the Tour de France will continue the route towards Paris with the sixteenth stage. The biggest cycling race in the world does so with all the still fit and available riders on board.
The fourth big test round among the riders, staff members and employees of the Tour didnt yield any positive cases. On the second rest day of the Tour it was already known that all riders of Jumbo-Visma, the team of watchman Primoz Roglic, had tested negative. “We are very happy that we can cycle here for another week together”, said the Slovenian on Monday. A total of 785 tests have been carried out in the past two days.
Last week, at the first rest day, all Tour participants also tested negative. However, four staff members of four different teams (Cofidis, AG2R La Mondiale, Ineos Grenadiers and Mitchelton-Scott) were found positive for the coronavirus. They had to leave the bubble in which the teams sit during the Tour.
Tour-boss Christian Prudhomme also turned out to be infected. Prudhomme therefore had to be quarantined for a week. He will return in the race on Tuesday. A total of 841 tests were carried out last week. Before the start of the Tour in Nice, everyone was tested twice as well.
“The organisers of the Tour and the UCI would like to thank all teams for their cooperation and the vigilance they have shown and will continue to show until the finish in Paris”, says a joint press release from Tour organiser ASO and the International Cycling Union. The Tour ends on Sunday in the French capital.
