Mouth caps are no longer required in Amsterdam and Rotterdam

In Amsterdam and Rotterdam, mouth caps are no longer compulsory in busy places. The municipalities have said that the obligation will no longer apply from Monday 31 August.

The duty entered into force on 5 August and applied to anyone aged 13 years or older. The municipalities hoped that the corona virus would spread less quickly. Shopkeepers had also asked for duty because it was very busy in the shopping streets and in the shops.

Later the shopkeepers were less happy with the rule. According to them, this resulted in fewer customers.
