Two weeks before the start of the new premier league year, corona infections are causing major problems in the women of PSV. The entire selection and staff have been quarantined for the time being after several positive tests.
The infections came to light during the preventive tests that are taken from the football players. Due to the mandatory quarantine, a proper preparation for the opening game of 6 September already seems impossible for the team of trainer Sander Luiten.
The KNVB now follows the advice of the local GGD, which, in consultation with the Eindhoven club, must indicate when it is responsible to play football again. “We will then have to go and see together with PSV what the exact consequences are and how we can best arrange this for the league and for the clubs”, let the association know.
Extra acid for PSV is that the season would be festively kicked off in the Philips Stadium. A maximum of 6,500 spectators could attend the first game against Alkmaar.
Corona had already crossed a line earlier in the league game against Ajax in March. By that time, 15,000 cards had already crossed the counter, which would be a record in the women’s premier league.
PSV was last season’s number one, until the competition was cut off because of the coronapandemic.
