Ronald Koemans departure at FC Barcelona is fixed, Mundo Deportivo reports Thursday night. The club leadership has decided not to continue with him after the run against Benfica in the Champions League.
Spanish media reported earlier on Thursday that Barcelona has not tied the knot on Koemans future. Mundo Deportivo now brings out that the club leadership did.
Barcelona will play Atlético Madrid on Saturday and although Koeman is not on the couch due to a suspension, he will be officially a trainer. But at least the club leadership has decided Koeman wont stay on as head coach. “Its a matter of time,” MD writes. Mundo Deportivo is the first newspaper in Spain to report it so firmly. Other media was cautious earlier on Thursday when it came to Koemans future.
It is now the question whether Barcelona appoints a permanent replacement or is going for an intermediate pope. Catalan media knows that Andrea Pirlo is President Joan Laportas top candidate. Xavi and Marcelo Gallardo (River Plate) are also mentioned. The financial picture plays an important role in appointing a new trainer. Barcelona is financially bound by hands and feet.
Koeman was appointed last summer after Quique Setiéns resignation.
