Nagelsmann: ‘Smart boy De Ligt is going to be incredibly important to us’

Julian Nagelsmann does not rule out Matthijs de Ligt making his base debut for Bayern Munich on Friday in the Bundesliga duel with Eintracht Frankfurt. The trainer of the reigning German champion praises the Dutch defender.
De Ligt collapsed last Saturday during the game with RB Leipzig for the Super Cup (5-3), as did Noussair Mazraoui and Ryan Gravenberch. Nagelsmann has great expectations for the ex-Ajacied, who came over 67 million euros from Juventus. โ€œMatthijs is an option for the basics. Hes going to be an incredibly important and interesting player for us. He is very present in the field and tries to help everyone.โ€
At the same time, Nagelsmann emphasizes that De Ligt should be given time to adjust. Earlier it became clear that the Dutch international is not yet in top shape. โ€œMatthijs is a smart boy. He works hard, even on the days when we don
t have training. Its about getting him to top fit,โ€ says the trainer.
