Navalny against supporters: Saturday massively on the streets

Russian opposition leader Aleksey Navalny calls on his supporters to take the streets on Saturday in protest against President Putins rule. โ€œOur future is in our hands. Dont be quiet,โ€ he says in a two-hour video on YouTube that is largely about a precious โ€œsecretโ€ palace of Putin.

In the film, Navalny accuses Putin of having built a โ€œkingdomโ€ for himself for 100 billion rubles (1.1 billion euros). It would be 39 times the size of Monaco. The film attracted half a million viewers in half an hour. The Kremlin hasnt responded yet.

Navalny was sentenced to 30 days in prison on Monday for alleged violating terms of a previous sentence. He had just returned from Germany, where he recovered from a poisoning he had contracted in Russia. After landing, he was immediately separated from his wife and taken away.

Demonstration is allowed in Russia only with permission, which has not been given for months because of the coronapandemic. A call for demonstration can also lead to punishment.

Block: arrest very worrying

Minister Stef Bloc of Foreign Affairs calls the arrest of Navalny โ€œvery disturbing.โ€ He calls on the Russian government to release him immediately and go after those who tried to kill him last year.

Navalnys lawyers said they didnt get access to their client. According to an ally, it was transferred to the city of Chimki, near the capital Moscow.
