NEC is another step closer to the Eredivisie. In their own house, the Nijmegenaren won a big deal from Roda JC, so they can now report themselves in the final of the playoffs for promotion/demotion.
In the regular competition, NEC and Roda ended seventh and eighth respectively, but nonetheless the two teams were allowed to compete on Thursday night for a spot in the final of the playoffs. That match quickly started very well for NEC: after less than five minutes of playing Bart van Rooij scored a great goal. The nineteen-year-old rightback was played well by Jordy Bruijn. Van Rooij then rammed the ball high in the short angle: 1-0.
In the remainder of the first half, NEC became dangerous several times, but it did not seem to double the score. In the injury period, Rangelo Janga did so: after a free kick of Bruijn, Janga tapped the ball in the game before the 2-0.
At rest there was a 2-0 stand on the scoreboard. In the second act Roda tried to make the connection hit, only the Limburgers played rather sloppy. In the sixtieth minute Jonathan Okita handed the final blow to Roda: the German overturned the recklessly emerging Jan Hoekstra, after which he could easily slide the ball into the Roda goal: 3-0.
That was also the final result, despite the fact that NEC had some chances to make the 4-0. Because of the victory, NEC is now in the final of the play-offs for promotion/demotion. The team of trainer Rogier Meijer will compete against the winner of the meeting between NAC Breda and FC Emmen, who will be on the program later on the Thursday evening. The winner of the playoffs grabs the latest available Eredivision ticket for next season.
