Benfica qualified for the Champions League group stage on Tuesday night. The 3-0 victory in the home game against Dinamo Kiev was more than enough for a ticket to the billion-dollar ball.
Benfica started the decisive match against Dinamo Kiev with a good starting position. The team of coach Roger Schmidt won the first leg 0-2 of the Ukrainians. David Neres started in the base Tuesday evening and was allowed to participate for seventy minutes. Alleged Ajax target Odisseas Vlachodimos started below the bar with the Portuguese. Jan Vertonghen stayed on the bench throughout the game.
In the early stages of the first half, it was Benfica that showed Dinamo Kiev that there was nothing to get in Lisbon. The Portuguese played very strong and therefore got the lead in the 27th minute due to a tight header by defender Nicolas Otamendi.
After the Argentines goal, things went fast for Benfica. In the fortieth minute, Rafa Silva took advantage of fumbling in the back of Dinamo Kiev, allowing the Portuguese to make the 2-0. Two minutes later, David Neres finally removed all the doubt that was left by shooting the 3-0 against the ropes. With this, Neres rewarded his excellent play in the first half.

After rest, Benfica took more and more gas back. Schmidt gave a number of players a rest, including Neres who was switched in the seventieth minute. The Portuguese still got a number of chances, but did not score more. Benfica convincingly reached the group stage of the Champions League. On Thursday, the Lisbon club will be told who the opponents will be in the pool during the draw.
