New Feyenoord role for Fer: “The trainer thinks Im filling in well”

Feyenoord routine Leroy Fer seems to be getting ready for a career switch after the arrival of coach Arne Slot. The eleven Oranje-International was already at the heart of the back during the first practice game with AA Gent and was also a duo with Marcos Senesi against AEK Athens on Saturday.
The 31-year-old Fer returned to De Kuip in 2019 and has since served as a defensive midfielder. So now he has gone back one line. How thats like? Actually good. I have a good time there, in that position. I get a good help from the trainer, Justin (goalkeeper Bijlow, ed.) and Marcos of course, who usually always plays. Yes, I feel good there. And I hope it will only get better, he says to the Feyenoord channels.
It seems strongly that Fer will still be in the back when Feyenoord plays for echie. That
s what the trainer said. That position, hes preferred right now, because we dont have so many central defenders. He thinks I fill in well.
Feyenoord won on Saturday at Varkenoord 3-1 by AEK. Slot and his are playing friendly with Werder Bremen and PAOK Saloniki later this month. On July 22 and 29, the preliminary rounds of the new Conference League are waiting, in which FC Drita (Kosovo) or FK Decic (Montenegro) will be the opponent.
