New PSV goalkeeper Mvogo: ‘Hope to get playing minutes here again’

You don’t have a choice in life and football is no exception. But when Yvon Mvogo got the chance to be leased to PSV, the goalkeeper of RB Leipzig didn’t have to think long.

The Swiss international, leased by PSV for two years, had to settle for the role of reserve at RB Leipzig behind Pรฉter Gulรกcsi. Now a new chance awaits him in Eindhoven.

Garantees the 26-year-old Mvogo obviously did not get from Roger Schmidt, who also has the experienced closing posts Jeroen Zoet and Lars Unnerstall at his disposal, but it had been the new PSV trainer himself who had managed to convince him to come to Eindhoven.


Schmidt, because of the offensive style of play he adheres to, was looking for a goalkeeper with playing ability. “I still have a lot to learn,” Mvogo realises, “but I am a goalkeeper who likes to play from behind. I like the type of football Roger Schmidt wants to play. Hopefully I can help the team.”

Mvogo, who also extended his contract with Leipzig until mid 2023 so that he can’t walk out the door free of charge after his rental period, is the first incoming transfer with the people of Eindhoven for the new season.
