Nijkamp (Sparta) exposes Manchester City problem: ‘They are allowed to rent x number’

Sparta has been given access to a Manchester City talent via via via this summer. The Japanese Koki Saito is formally hired from Lommel SK, but has arrived at Het Kasteel via the City Football Group network, confirms technical director Gerard Nijkamp.
Sparta‘s technical policy makers have good contacts with Manchester City. โ€œMaurice (head coach Maurice Steijn, ed.), from his NAC past, and I, from my PEC Zwolle past, have just built a good relationship with the people of City. And they are always looking for stages for talented players, who want to see them,โ€ Nijkamp tells RTV Rijnmond.
That does require Lommel’
s help: the Belgian second-grader is owned by the City Football Group. โ€œThat‘s what the regulations have to do with. City is only allowed to rent out an x number of players. So that’s why he‘s under contract at Lommel and from there we officially hire him from Lommel. But, of course, he’s in the City Group project.โ€
PSV used a similar construction. Brazilian Savinho is swapping Atlรฉtico Mineiro for the French ESTAC Troyes, also part of the City Football Group, and will be released on rent in Eindhoven next season.
