Cycling: NK time trials deleted by new coronameasures
19.09 p.m.: The NK time trials, which were on the calendar before 7 October, do not continue. The organisation decided this after consultation with the cycling union KNWU. It also means that the NK time trial will no longer take place this year.
The organisation tells us that it is not responsible to allow participants to travel from all over the Netherlands to Emmen, now that the government has announced additional measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus. Protecting the health of volunteers and employees also plays a role. Moreover, in the centre of Emmen, it is impossible to exclude the public from the intended finish location.
The championship would be held for the categories of elite women, elite men and promises men. The champions of 2019, Jos van Emden and Annemiek van Vleuten, are now a year longer national champion.
Cycling: Circus-Wanty Gobert gets status from WorldTourTeam
18.01 hours: Circus-Wanty Gobert will be awarded WorldTour Team status next year and will be able to participate in all major races. The cycling team is promoted to the highest level because it can take over the license of the Polish CCC.
After Deceuninck – Quick-Step and Lotto Soudal, Circus-Wanty Gobert becomes the third Belgian team in the WorldTour.
At Circus-Wanty Gobert the Dutch Boy and Danny van Poppel, Weskey Kreder and Maurits Lammertink are under contract.
Handball: Bene-League just starts in October
17.34 hours: The Bene-League for handball players will just start on October 10 as planned. The Supervisory Board and the organizer of the Belgian-Dutch competition agreed on Monday after consultation with the clubs.
Recent developments concerning the coronavirus were a reason for those involved to reconsider the start. However, in both the Netherlands and Belgium, handball may be carried out within the measures in force. The clubs will comply with country-by-country measures and the development of coronavirus will be closely monitored. Both national unions support the decision to start on 10 October, let the organisation know. However, the schedule may be adjusted.
The HandbalNL League, which started on 5 September after the previous postponement of the Bene-League, will be played out after the Bene-League season and will determine the champion of the country.
Football: Easy flute duel Sweden
15.15 pm: Referee Danny Eweeg leads Thursday the duel between Swedish Malmö and Granada from Spain in the playoffs of the Europa League. In Sweden, he receives assistance from Mario Diks and Hessel Steegstra on the sidelines.
The winner of the competition at the Malmö New Stadium takes place in the group stage of the Europa League. Of the Dutch clubs Feyenoord and AZ are already sure of group matches in the Europa League. PSV can place itself on Thursday at the expense of the Norwegian Rosenborg BK.
Equestrian: KHS wants to extend the outdoor season
13.33 hours: The equestrian federation KNHS wants to extend the outdoor season. That says Theo Fledderus, director of the organization. “We call on the associations and organisers to this end. Sports in the open air probably involves fewer risks.” Normally the equestrian sport will switch to the indoor season in autumn, possibly there will be some ‘outdoor’ events.
Fledderus claims to have ‘all concept’ for the additional measures to combat the coronavirus announced by the Cabinet. “But of course it also brings extra pressure for us,” says the former top man of sports dome NOC*NSF. “No canteen, no audience; that means we have to change many things again.”
The KNHS is already preparing for even more stringent measures. Fledderus: “We take everything into account. We are expanding some of the activities we have already started. Online horseback riding, for example, to have your trial reviewed. In addition to larger matches, we now try to see smaller matches for the fans via video or live streams. So everyone can stay involved, even if there would be a lockdown again.”
German doctor confesses to have doped athletes
12:16 a.m. German sports doctor Mark S. hasbefore a court in Munich known since 2012 to have doped athletes. According to a statement read out by his lawyer, this was mainly about winter sports enthusiasts and cyclists.
The doctor stated that he never went out on personal gain. Moreover, he claims that he has never put the health of the athletes concerned at risk.
Mark S. is suspected of providing prohibited means in as many as 150 cases. He was arrested in 2019 after searches in his hometown of Erfurt.
Sparta did not agree to suspension for Pinto
09:38 Sparta did not agree to the settlement proposal of one contest suspension for Mica Pinto because of the red card he received Saturday in the away match against PEC Zwolle. Just before rest, the 27-year-old Luxembourger was expelled for hands.
“ Player and club do not agree to this settlement proposal and will explain later this week to the Disciplinary Committee with the primary aim of discontinuing the suspension,” says Sparta.
The still pointless Sparta takes on Sunday at home against AZ.
Ice Hockey: Tampa Bay wins Stanley Cup for the second time
08:16. Tampa Bay Lightning ice hockey players won the Stanley Cup, the North American Championship, for the second time. They defeated the Dallas Stars in the sixth meeting with 2-0, and thus reached a 4-2 gap in the series.
The first time the Florida club won the prize was in 2004. This time they did so without spectators, due to the Coronacrisis applicable protocols.
Braydon Point and Blake Coleman scored the goals in the decisive duel.
Football: Liverpool still has at least 2 duels without novice Thiago
07:25 hours Liverpool plays at least two more games without Thiago Alcantara. According to trainer Jürgen Klopp, there is a slight injury to the Spanish top player, who recently happened from Bayern Munich. Thiago was also missing in the won duel with Arsenal on Monday.
A week earlier, the midfielder had already made his debut for the English champion in the battle with Chelsea. “Now he needs to take it easy,” says Klopp. “It‘s no different. We’re not really worried. Soon he will be there again.”
Details of the injury did not give Liverpool. The defender has won the first three duels of the new season in the Premier League.
