The former Blokker in Belgium, which has been living as a Mega World in recent months, does not make a new start. According to the bankrupt chain, no suitable buyer was found for Mega World. Only a German party had submitted a bid, but that was insufficient and contained too many preconditions.
The 119 branch chain was declared bankrupt at the end of last year. Mega World had more than 40 million euros in debt. Due to bankruptcy, about 650 people lost their jobs. The store stock is sold by the curators to a French company. “It is only about the goods, not about the decoration of the shops such as shelves, cash registers or shopping baskets. We are still working on a solution for that.”
The Blokker stores in Belgium were taken over earlier last year by the Dutchman Dirk Bron. Justice in Belgium then opened an investigation into the businessman, aimed at possible forgery, falsehood in annual accounts and abuse of corporate property. In the Netherlands, Bron is on trial for fraud in boxer shorts and slippers, but he himself contradicts all accusations.
