CCEIT reporter Kees Jongkind has been named Sportjournalist of the Year 2020 by the Dutch Sport Press (NSP).
It is an oeuvre prize for Jongkind‘s work for the programme Other Tijden Sport and in particular – as NSP reports – Decceit report Code Geel about the cycling team of Jumbo-Visma during the Tour de France.
Behind the scenes at Jumbo-Visma
Jongkind followed the team of Jumbo-Visma with cameramen Tijs Kuijpers and Maurits Obbema during the last Tour de France, offering a unique look behind the scenes of one of the world’s largest cycling teams.
The documentary shows as detailed as well as impressive the physical and mental struggle Tom Dumoulin is going through in those days and how Primoz Roglic sees a certain Tour victory slip through the fingers of the penultimate day. Also abroad, the documentary received high ratings.
Jongkind has been employed by CCEit Sport since 1990 and has been present as a reporter at many Olympic Games, European Championships and World Cup‘s and Tour de France’s. Since 2003 he has also made longer sports reports, such as for Other Times Sport.
With his documentaries ‘Double Davis’ (about the American skater Shani Davis) and ‘Theft urine samples of Gennip and Visser covered up’, he was already in the past.
Furthermore, discus maker Ria Stalman admitted to having used doping to Jongkind in 2016 when she won Olympic gold in 1984. And in 2018 he went back to Argentina with Arie Haan and Ernie Brandts, where it became clear on the spot that the presence of Oranje at the 1978 World Cup had been crucial for the Fool Mothers.
