The number 789 of the world ranking list has been a surprise on the Delray Beach tennis tournament. In the second round, American Christian Harrison surprised the first Chile Cristian Garin: 7-6 (3) 6-2, 24 year old Garin ranks 22nd in the global ranking.
Harrison has undergone no less than eight surgeries in recent years, including his hips and legs. The 26-year-old American won Garin in Delray Beach only his fourth victory ever on the ATP Tour. “I love what I do,” said Harrison, who was in front of the quarter-finals. “I want to continue playing tennis now and hope I have a few good, healthy years ahead of me.”
At the Abu Dhabi WTA tournament, Aryna Sabalenka continues to win. The 22-year-old tennis star from Belarus closed 2020 with tournament victories in Ostrava and Linz and penetrated the quarter-finals in Abu Dhabi by defeating Ons Jabeur from Tunisia: 6-2 6-4. Sabalenka, the worlds number 10, has now won twelve consecutive matches.
