Between Friday and Saturday morning 4604 positive corona-virussts have been recorded. This is again more than the average of the past week, which is 3759, according to figures from the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM).
On Friday, the health institute recorded 4761 new cases over a day, even though much more infections than average.
The number of reported deaths from Covid-19 increased by 62 last 24 hours. On Friday 50 deaths were recorded, Thursday 74 and Wednesday 89. That does not mean that all those people died during that 24 hour period. Deaths are sometimes passed only after a while.
Amsterdam had the highest number of new corona infections: 210. 130 inhabitants tested positive in The Hague, 96 in Rotterdam. Then Eindhoven followed with 93 cases and Helmond with 86.
The number of vaccinations in the Netherlands is approaching 1 million. This number is also approximate, because for long-term care institutions and general practitioners it is based on the number of doses of vaccine delivered by the RIVM.
Fewer patients in hospitals
The number of coronapatics in the Dutch hospitals has declined last 24 hours. According to the National Coordination Centre Patient Distribution (LCPS), 1858 people with Covid-19 are currently admitted, 85 less than Friday. Of these patients, 522 are so sick that they are in intensive care. Thats 12 more than a day before.
In the ICs, the number of coronapatics has been fluctuating between 500 and 550 for about two weeks.
Hospitals took 176 new patients last 24 hours, 44 less than on Friday. Of them, twenty are hospitalized in intensive care, as many as a day before. According to the LCPS, COVID hospital occupation is following a predominantly declining trend. “We expect this to last this week.”
However, there is a slight increase in the average number of hospitalizations compared to last week. “That is why we are following developments with regard to the British variant very closely, as its emergence may lead to a stronger increase in the number of infections and hospitalizations in the coming weeks,” said the LCPS.
The number of coronapatics on the IC follows a slightly decreasing trend. To spread the number of admissions across the country, the LCPS has moved 15 patients over the past 24 hours, three of which are on the ICU.
