Olympic torch tour begins in Fukushima, public not welcome

The opening ceremony and the start of the relay of the Olympic torch will take place in the Japanese city of Fukushima on 25 March. The public is banned from this official kick-off of the Games, has announced the organising committee for this summers Olympic Games in Japan.

The starting ceremony and the first stage of the torch tour have been sobered as a precaution against the spread of corona. Initially invited guests and around 3000 visitors would be welcome at the start ceremony, which will be broadcast live on television.

The torch with the Olympic fire is carried by approximately 10,000 runners throughout the country, and finally arrived at the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo on 23 July. The deferred Games will start on that day, they will last until Sunday 8 August.

The Games in Japan were scheduled to take place last year, but were postponed because of the pandemic. Just before this decision was made, the Olympic fire arrived from Greece in Japan. The flame has remained in the country all this time.
