The Outbreak Management Team believes that the current corona measures should be extended. That means no exception to the maximum number of guests at home at Christmas, sources say to deCCeit. The possibility of an extension for Christmas days is suggested behind the scenes.
The experts at the OMT yesterday drew up an opinion for the cabinet, which will be discussed tomorrow with relevant ministers in the Catshuis.
In recent days, the number of new infections has declined, but the pressure on care is still very high. The OMT does not consider it necessary to introduce stricter measures, but according to the experts – partly due to the uncertainty surrounding the omikron variant – there is no room for relaxation either.
Minister Van Engelshoven of Culture also hinted yesterday that relaxation is not in line with expectations. The day before, Minister Slob for Education said that the cabinet has the commitment to keep the schools open around the Christmas holidays.
The current ‘evening lockdown ‘applies until Saturday 18 December. Next Tuesday, there will be a press conference about the sequel.
