Microsoft launched the first wave of Xbox One games, which on the Xbox Series thanks to the features of backward compatibility will receive an increased frame frequency. The initiative has been called FPS Boost. So Far Cry 4, Watch Dogs 2, UFC 4 and Sniper Elite 4 are already playing on the Xbox Series at 60 frames per second instead of the current 30 FPS.
Moreover, the platformer New Super Lucky‘s Tale will work at 120 FPS. Digital Foundry managed to test projects – all of them quite successfully reach the desired values, but there are peculiarities.
For example, Far Cry 4 and Watch Dogs 2 never improved for Xbox One X, which makes both games resolution on Series X quite low – 1440×1080 and 1600×900, respectively. With Sniper Elite 4, the situation is interesting: on the PS4 developers left an unlocked frame rate, so that on the PS5 the game without any updates works at 60 FPS, but on Xbox One it was locked on 30 FPS.
Now on Xbox Series, the game runs at 60 FPS. If the game supports FPS Boost – this will be reported by a special icon (upper right corner) UFC 4 on Xbox One X had the ability to choose the mode: 1080p at 60 FPS or 1800p at 30 FPS.
However, now on Xbox Series X when choosing 1800p mode, the game will work at 60 FPS. On Xbox Series S, where code for Xbox One is used, the game is played at 900p at 60 FPS.
In conclusion: New Super Lucky’s Tale, which ran in 4K at 60 FPS on Xbox One X and at 1080p at 30 FPS on Xbox One S, is now playing in 4K at 120 FPS on Xbox Series X and at 1080p at 120 FPS on Xbox Series S respectively. As Microsoft notes, no changes have been made to the source code of the games themselves – all innovations work at the level of the emulator.
The company is promising to introduce more games with improvements soon. More on Gamomania Team17 announces 2021 the “year of Super Magbot” Head of Nintendo: Switch heir must offer something new In DayZ another zeroing of servers took place.
