On Monday night it could not be up for FC Emmen: a 4-1 win over competitor FC Volendam, the third Kitchen Champion Division period and the first place in the competition. Reda Kharchouch scored twice and enjoyed the ambiance at the packed Oude Meerdijk.
The 26-year-old Amsterdammer broke through at Telstar in the 2019/2020 season and earned a transfer to Sparta, but had to play mainly in empty stadiums since then. “I‘ve never played for such an ambiance!” , he lets ESPN know. “I think I played one great game, that was Telstar-Ajax (in the 2019/2020 cup season, ed.): full, but I don’t think it was as full as it is here.”
Kharchouch got wings due to the mass support and scored twice. “I‘ve always said: when I get patting on the back, I’m going to fly, I‘m going to perform. I did today (Monday, ed.) too. I’m starting to get fitter, so that promises something beautiful.”
FC Emmen is now one point ahead of FC Volendam and six at number three Excelsior. Dick Lukkien‘s team has eight more games to secure the Kitchen Champion Division title and/or direct promotion.
