Osaka wins a semifinal she wouldn’t actually play

Tennisster Naomi Osaka has qualified for the finals of the WTA tournament of Cincinnati, which is being played in New York because of the corona pandemic.

The Japanese had previously planned not to take action during the semi-finals in protest against police violence in the US. After consultation with the WTA, the umbrella organization for professional tennis players, and the tennis association USTA, Osaka decided to play anyway. Also, the tournament was shut down for a day, so more attention could be paid to the protests, according to Osaka.
