Outsider Sevilla wastes expensive points just before the all-determining weekend

Seville had been silently involved in the Spanish title race, but seems to have dropped out after Monday evening. The team of Julen Lopetegui had to take a late 0-1 defeat at home against Athletic Bilbao.
Sevilla had won seven of its last eight competition duels and was three points behind Atlético Madrid at the start of the 34th round and one point at Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. Competitors did not drop any stitches on Saturdays and Sundays, after which Seville had the floor. The Andalusians were almost constantly in the attack, but Unai Simón turned out to be too big a stand in the way: the closing station kept Youssef En-Nesyri, Ivan Rakitic and Marcos Acuña from scoring.
Luuk de Jong was brought within the lines twenty minutes before time, but could not turn the tide anymore. Seville even got a hit by Nico Williams in nineties, but brother Iñaki Williams helped the Basques win a 0-1 victory. Seville takes six points in the first place at the next La Liga weekend, which is most likely to be decisive for the title race. Front runner Atlético travels to Barcelona and number two Real Madrid receives Seville in his own home.
