A crocheted doll by American politician Bernie Sanders has generated tens of thousands of dollars on auction site eBay. The creator had depicted the senator as he was, wearing a mouthcap and thick mittens, at the inauguration of President Joe Biden. Images of Sanders in winter clothes went around the world and caused a lot of hilarity.
The creator of the doll, Tobey King, had promised to donate the entire proceeds to Meals on Wheels. That organization brings meals to people who are poorly on their feet. The first offer was 99 cents on Saturday, but after a few days there were already 167 bids and eventually the sale price rose to more than 20,000 dollars.
Auction site eBay tells CNN to be ‘inspired‘ by doubling the promotion and the amount. This means that more than 40,000 dollars (about 33,000 euros) will go to charity.
For the purpose of the money, King had been inspired by the campaign team of that progressive senator, who recently sold clothes with a photo of Sanders at the sworn in. Those proceeds also go to Meals on Wheels.
