The presentation of the most popular DJs in the world, the DJ Mag top 100, will not take place in a full venue, but in the cinema this year. Pathé and events organisation ALDA announced on Friday that the three-hour awardshow will be shown live on the white screen.
The virtual show will include performances by Afrojack, Armin van Buuren and David Guetta. The sets of the DJs are recorded in various iconic places in Amsterdam. In addition to the performances, the most popular DJ of 2020 will be appointed. Visitors are free to dance in their own place.
Normally, the ceremony will take place during the Amsterdam Music Festival, the biggest event of the Amsterdam Dance Event at the Johan Cruyff Arena. Due to the coronacrisis, the event would only take place online, but because of the screening in cinemas, the audience can now also be present.
Last year a lot of Dutch DJs were found in the top 10 of the list, including Martin Garrix in second place and Armin van Buuren in fourth place. The award show is on Saturday 7 November in all the cinemas of Pathé and Euroscoop.
The cinemas are currently looking for new ways to attract public, as many Hollywood titles have been pushed into the long track due to the coronacrisis. For example, old classics are re-released, such as Lord of the Rings or The Shining, and more events are shown on big screen
