Sergio Pérez will return to Formula 1 this weekend at the Spanish Grand Prix. The Mexican driver of the Racing Point team has been missing the last two races because he was infected with the coronavirus.
Racing Point announces that Pérez has received permission from the FIA motorsport federation to race in Spain, after the result of the driver’s coron test on Wednesday was negative.
“I’ve only had mild complaints, so I’m lucky I could keep training”, Pérez says.
The news means that Nico Hülkenberg is taking another step back. The German was the replacement for Pérez during the last two races at Silverstone and did not do him any disservice.
Hülkenberg noted last weekend in the qualifications for the Grand Prix of Great Britain, which was won by Max Verstappen, the third fastest time and finished in seventh place in the race.
The start of the Grand Prix of Spain is Sunday at 3.10 pm. The first free practice is Friday from 11.00 hrs.
