The players of Ajax entered the field on Wednesday night before the cup meeting with PSV in a goalkeeper shirt by André Onana. With that, they wanted to express their support for the goalkeeper who has a doping suspension on his pants for 12 months.
Onana was suspended last week because during a checkup the banned drug furosemide was found in his urine. Ajax finds the punishment far too heavy and will appeal to the International Sports Tribunal CAS. Until then, Onana is not allowed to play and not even train.
“ This is what the club and players have come up with,” said goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg, who replaced Onana, after the Cup victory (2-1) on PSV. “We wanted to do it last weekend, but then our race was canceled. Onana is not only a good goalkeeper, but also a nice guest in the dressing room. Were gonna miss him.”
The fanatical supporters of the F-side of Ajax also support Onana. They put a large banner in the empty Johan Cruijff Arena, with the text: Onaa we support you, everything gonna be alright.
