Podcast The Day: Press Trip by Tibet

After six years of insistence, GCCEIT correspondent Sjoerd den Daas received permission to travel to Tibet. Not independently, but with a press trip where Chinese officials did not lose sight of him and the other journalists for a moment. He didnt see a lot of things.

According to Sjoerd, Tibet is even more closed than the Chinese region of Xinjiang, where Uyghur community lives and is forced in reeducation camps to renegotiate their religion and culture. As in Xinjiang, Chinas repression of the Tibetan population is very present, Sjoerd notes after his journey, but in a different way.

He talks in the podcast about what he wasnt supposed to see from the Chinese authorities and how theres little left of Tibetan culture than a Disney fairy tale that is especially attractive to tourists.
