The e-cigarette has been on an advance for some time and is seen by many as a less harmful alternative to smoking. But there are also major concerns about the rise of vaping. More than 180 countries, including the Netherlands, are discussing a more stringent tobacco policy in Geneva this week. Perhaps the most important question is what to do with the e-cigarette.
Should the same strict rules apply to the regular cigarette, or should vapors be stimulated because it is less harmful? Or is that a smoke screen from the tobacco industry?
Professor of Preventive Medicine Onno van Schayck, at Maastricht University, talks in podcast De Dag what we know so far about how harmful the e-cigarette itself actually is and what the emergence of vaping means for the fight against smoking.
