He lived like a tsar: as a super-rich Russian emperor from the past. But the Russian man Alexei Safonov wasn‘t at all. He just worked as a police officer.
The villa he built was noticed by the Russian police investigating money cases. Large chandeliers, gold decorated walls and ceilings, expensive items everywhere, even a golden toilet bowl. All things he could never pay with his salary.
Money police found that he was secretly earning extra money. That’s how he sold parking permits and license plates. So with what Safonov earned with it, he bought his villa together, the agents think. And that is, of course, very illegal.
How much money he earned and what is still being investigated. Safonov can get 15 years in prison for that.
