Portugal eases: nightclubs may reopen doors

Portugal will relax a number of corona measures from 1 October. A maximum of the number of people allowed to enter, among other things, hospitality, shops and cultural institutions.

Nightclubs and discos are allowed to host visitors again after being closed for a year and a half. The condition is that guests can present a negative test or proof of vaccination. For a stay in a hotel there is no obligation to show a health pass. However, people in interior areas need to keep wearing a face mask. Prime Minister Antonio Costa announced the easing at a press conference on Thursday.

The number of corona infections in Portugal has declined to less than a thousand per week. At the end of July, Portugal had more than 3,000 corona infections every week.

In the southern European country, more than 83 percent of the population has been fully vaccinated. This makes Portugal one of the best scoring countries in the world.
